WW2 - Caterpillar Club
Had this packed away and just found it this afternoon. Some 22 years ago, I bought this grouping, it's not big, but the story behind it was neat. This is to a Lt. A.L. Bachmann, who in 1940m took a bi-plane trainer to Calif. with an unauthorized enlisted friend, they crashed into a mountain and his friend was killed. He was court-martialed and tossed out of the military. But when the war started, he was returned to duty and was part of a training crew on bombers. On a training flight his aircraft caught fire and everyone bailed out and that was where he qualified for the Caterpillar Clun. On his original card, the date of 10 May 44 was typed in and I would assume that was his jump date. I will also include my correspondence with the gentleman I bought this grouping from. Sorry, but no Caterpillar Pin. In the photo, Bachmann is the third from the left in civies.
